AccelBase Docs

Preface

This guide describes how to setup and use AccelBase Clone Manager core functionality.

The preface covers the following:

    Audience

    Conventions

    Warnings

1.1 Audience

This document is intended for installer, database administrator, developers and system administrator who are installing, configuring, running and managing their AccelBase Clone Manager (ACM).

This document provides configuration tasks for system administrator, web administrator and database administrator who will install and configure ACM.

For users with specialized system roles who intend to install ACM, this document provides information that requires configuration tasks to be performed by system administrator, web administrator and database administrator to configure a system in preparation for ACM installation. When the system preparation is completed successfully, a system administrator and web administrator should only need to provide configuration information and grant access to the database administrator to configure ACM.

This document assumes that you are familiar with Oracle Database, Oracle Real Application Cluster and Oracle Data Guard concepts.

1.2 Conventions

The following text conventions are used in this document:

Convention Meaning
boldface Boldface type indicates graphical user interface elements associated with an action, or terms defined in text or the glossary.
italic Italic type indicates book titles, emphasis, or placeholder variables for which you supply particular values.
monoscape Monospace type indicates commands within a paragraph, URLs, code in examples, text that appears on the screen, or text that you enter.

1.3 Warnings

ACM, like any other software, depends on adequate infrastructure conditions for its proper functioning.

Entire solution was structured to use specific products and softwares, which must be an integral part of the customer's existing infrastructure.

ACM, as a conductor, governs the set of third party software and solutions available in the environment to produce the AccelBase solution for managing test databases.

AccelBase is not responsible (and ACM does not govern) for the correct functioning and adequate provisioning of resources for these products. ACM needs that this set of software is properly tuned, so that it produces the proposed result. Without these conditions, there is no guarantee that ACM will produce its best.

In ACM documentation, it is possible to find suggestions of minimum necessary requirements for the best functioning of software.

Before installing ACM, consult ACM documentation for configuration details, software versions and all others pre requirements.

Oracle Database license including its options or any other third party product is not part of the ACM solution, please consult your Oracle Database or third party vendor to keep your environment properly licensed.

Base image databases, database clones and ACM components must not be configured on the same server as the production database.

It is not necessary to install or release access for any ACM components in your production environment.

Installing the ACM components on separated servers, communication, access and network rules must be allowed between the servers. Check Architecture and Infrastructure Overview for more details.

ACM must not be used for the creation of clones that are used as a productive environment.

Third party licenses: ACM solution integrates to your Oracle databases and you must be aware of Oracle required licenses including options such as dataguard, acfs snapshot that is usually included on oracle enterprise license but it can change as Oracle definitions. Depending on your environment needs, other options used on production may also need to be properly licensed on clone environment since it will be replicated from production. These licenses are not part of the ACM solution and must be properly acquired before integrating with ACM.
